Dr. Valente B. Alvarez holds a BS in Biochemical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico, and MS and Ph.D. in Food Science from Michigan State University. He is Professor and Extension State Specialist in the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) and Director of the Wilbur A. Gould Food Industries Center (FIC) at The Ohio State University. His industry-related research projects are on new technologies applications, R&D, ingredient functionality, product quality and shelf life. As Director of FIC, he is responsible for the leadership and administration of research and outreach programs that FIC offers to private, state entities, key food industries and start-up food-related enterprises in Ohio, nationally and internationally. Dr. Alvarez is Lead Instructor of the food safety certified training courses Better Process Control School (BPCS), Food Safety Prevention Control Alliance-QI (FSPCA-QI), Foreign Supplier Verification-QI (FSVP-QI), HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) among others. https://foodindustries.osu.edu/. Dr. Alvarez has been invited as speaker or collaborator of professional scientific events in the U.S.A., Mexico, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
